Can anyone share the costs they paid per inch for a raised vs flush spa. Our contractor quoted $800/6". Does this seem right? Also, what suggestions can you offer to make our inground spa easier to use, more efficient and/or attractive? How many heads, size of pump, etc. etc. Any suggestions will be very welcomed!

Whatever you get, raised or lowered, I would suggest you get a rolled edge. It really adds to the comfort of using your spa.
some other suggestions;
  1. Make sure you sit in in a gunite spa, it is very different from a fiberglass hot tub.
  2. The number of jets and type of jets will determine how many additional pumps you may need
  3. Jet placement can be very important, you can have jets for your back, obviously, but you can also do jets for your calves and feet.
Cost really depends on size, material, and several other factors. The main thing to consider is why do want the spa? When you can answer that question, you can decide how much you want to invest.

Dave,

The average cost for a "standard" gunite spa is $15 to $20K. More if you want all the bells and whistles.

Keep in mind that after the first year or so, about 50% of gunite spa owners either never use their spa, or rarely use their spa.

Thanks,

Jim R.

It's going to be priced similar to a finished raised wall. So depends on the sqft of the area requiring finish. I think your number is in the right ballpark, I vaguely recall my designer saying a flush spa is a couple grand less than a raised (we were talking about a normal 18" raised spa).
