I’m changing out the current pump motor for a new one. Removed the four bolts from the wet end with no problem. Went to remove the screws from the end where the ground wire connects in and the screws were rusted. Finally got them out now the cover will not come loose. Seems really rusted. I sprayed some rust remover around where it should open up last night and let it set overnight. Is there another way to remove this or break it off. I’m told this motor is 20 years old. It’s an AO Smith 1hp motor. I’ve tried to take a flat head screwdriver and a rubber mallet to loosen where the break is to remove it and it does nothing. I’ve searched and searched online and can’t seem to find anyone who has had this issue. Everyone just wiggles that cover right off. It’s not budging.

I have had to literally beat that cover off with a hammer, the claws especially, on many occasions. You're going to toss it so don't worry what happens to it. A few good whacks and it might just break free.
