This might sound stupid but so far I have found several settings that the pool builder did not have correct. The suction side of the filter has a tee with one side coming from the bottom drain and the other from the skimmer. There's a valve that allows you to vary the percentage. It is currently set to have 50% from each. Is this the correct setting?

We generally recommend about 10% main drain and 90% skimmer.

The main drain does little for your water circulation. Main point of the circulation is to disperse chemicals and skim the surface of the pool.

Steve,

There is no absolute right answer here, so whatever works best for you... :)

In my mind, the best setup is to have the Main Drain only open about 10%, with the Skimmer open all the way..

For me, the skimmer action is the most important thing.. I personally see no value in having a Main Drain.. There are thouands and thousands of pools out there with no Main Drain or no operating Main Drain, and they all work just fine.. If you do have a Main Drain, you want some water flow to make sure the water in the pipe does not go stagnate..

Thanks,

Jim R.
