Pre pool opening (white water mold)

Hate to admit , years prior I’ve never really opened the cover to check on the pool. We hit 60 degrees today after a very long cold snap (think -15 degrees for a few weeks)

Water looks good!
Minus some leaves and worms

Had to break up some ice to get a decent look . I wasn’t brave enough to stick my arm in that cold water for a sample . But was thrilled to see no signs of tissue paper (wwm)

Was pretty amazed how thick the ice still is IMG_8895.jpeg

I think I’ll start reading up how to “open” this thing myself this year

If you can open a gallon of milk, and close it after, you can unscrew the plugs at the returns/skimmer and reinstall the equipment drain plugs. Better yet, you still have those muscles from the 500 jug slam. (too soon ? :ROFLMAO: ) Gravity does the flooding of the plumbing because it's so kind like that and you save buckets of cash.

The adult beverage halfway through and sebsequnt thereafters taste spectacularly smug.

For opening I would unscrew the return plugs/gizmo in the skimmer and replace with these ?
That's it. Lube all the threads and o-rings except the gauge. Peel the Teflon tape off it and add a few new wraps before installing. Go gentle installing all of it because the lube/tape will make it easy to overtighten and crack whatever you're screwing into.

are there any vids ?
None that I have on file, hang tight if anyone else knows some good ones. I caution myself blindly sending you to YouTube because you'll hear all about putting a copper pipe or magic eraser in your skimmer instead of maintaining FC. :laughblue:

Ok then, I think I’m comfortable enough trying it this year!

I normally get an email from the pool company about this time of year to get on the schedule.

Just imagine the dollars saved - open myself and shouldn’t need 10k gallons of chlorine this year 🤣

Good morning,

Opened the cover today to take a look. Water level is pretty low. Is there anything I should do before adding
water ?
Like clean the water line or anything ?
Not opening for a few more weeks .

Nope.

If you feel it could use a scub, go for it.

I'd mix it well with a submersible pump, take a FC reading and add some If it's getting low. That'll ensure it looks like this when you're ready.

I tried a fountain for funsies but mine needed the hose or it spun out of control. :ROFLMAO:

I pump from the deep end and give left, right and center 20 mins each for mixing.

Is this the way it’s supposed to be?!
Welcome to the cool water club.

Builders poo poo on SWGs because they don't work when it's cold and you have to add LC. Bruh. Half a gallon lasts a week if its that cold, i dumped the whole thing in and got 12 days. Boohoo.
