Was talking to a guy at work today about pool care and he said he used to get algae all the time and now he using PoolRX and has never had another problem. What are your thoughts on this product?
Its Crud. It is a "mineral cartridge" that is really adding metals (iron and copper) to your pool that can build up over time and cause metal staining and other issues.
Just keep your chlorine in the right level for your CYA and you wont have to worry about algae, metals, or any other issues you see from pool store gimmicks.
Hey Dollar and belated welcome !! May I ask why you are still looking for magic pills/potions ? You found your way here which is a massive leg up on all your friends and coworkers. We do it the easy way with generic chemicals that you will not only know what is in them, but exactly how they will affect your pool.
I sense that you still aren’t convinced, and we all understand that because we were all the Newdude once. Check out this thread to see what we will have your pool looking like. On the CHEAP. Trouble free and smooth sailing with the least amount of work possible. These are all pools belonging to real live regular Joe/Jane members here. NOT some pool in a brochure that was CGI anyway. (And ours beat the brochures hands down to boot) We can have your own pool posting pics in no time with helpful guidance and all on your own in a month or two when it ‘clicks’.
How clear should my water be? A very common question. Here is mine on a calm morning where I could finally vacuum. Yes I know, I'm still manually vacuuming. It took me 7 years to finally get an SWG, I'm working on a robot. :) So now let's see your water clarity.
When someone says "I use this and have no problems" they can almost never tell you why it prevents problems. That's the problem with pool care, people throw a bunch of stuff at a pool problem and when it goes away (at least visibly) they credit the last thing they threw in and convince themselves that it fixed the problem. Online reviews of pool products are a wasteland for this sort of thing.
PoolRx is copper, which prevents algae but will eventually cause staining of the pool surfaces, hair, and skin. It's really the worst way to prevent algae and the only reason it continues to get pushed by pool stores is because it's so cheap to make and sell at a premium.
Newdude I am very thankful I have found this forum. I have learned so much for the advice given and the articles. I am not looking for a magic pill, I have been asking people who have pools if they take care of there own or have a company and I just ask them what they use and any problems they have had. The poolrx came up in a conversation and I had never heard of such a product. To be honest it sounded unusual to me, so my thought was I would post on here and see the thoughts from y’all. I love getting information and knowledge so I can pass on to other people who may need it. My neighbor just finished up there pool and we’re talking to me saying how confusing there “pool school” was and how the builder sold them on his pool service for $250 a month!!! I gave them all the information to this site and now they are gonna do it on their own and save that money. My intention was not to make anyone on here feel like I was not buying into the information.
Be forewarned though, if whatever you find is called 4 in 1, ‘Dr’, or something something Blue it will either be harmful or be massively overpriced baking soda.
