Good morning, I just remembered that my electrician told me a while back that he didn’t think my pool was bonded and suggested that I have a “water bond coupling” installed so that he could run the bonding wire. Any idea what part he is referring to and where it needs to be installed? I asked a couple of local pool companies and they didn’t know what I was talking about. I have a good size vinyl liner pool and have no idea if the pool itself is bonded. I am pretty sure the motor is not bonded though as there isn’t any wire attached to the bonding screw. I assume it needs to be bonded as well?

Thanks. If I assume there is no bonding grid in place and nothing pool-related is bonded, should I just leave it alone? Would it be pointless to bond the water and motor unless everything else is also bonded to achieve the goal of equal potential? How would you bond it to begin with if there is no bonding grid around the pool?

Are there any licensed electricians on the forum? I’ve read quite a few past posts about pool bonding but am still not totally clear on what if anything I need to do.

Digging in a little, pool bonding has been required in the NEC since 1962 so my guess is there is a bonding wire "somewhere". The older the pool, the harder that somewhere may be to find.
Do you have a 120v light? Is that fixture bonded? Metal handrails? Can you get a bonding wire to them? Could you loop the pool with a bonding wire? Any way to attach it to the pool walls?
All of the bonding requirements are equally important but it is my opinion (and you know what they say about opinions 😜 ) that starting somewhere is better than doing nothing.

Thanks for this. I don’t think there is a light fixture in the pool as I see no way of controlling it. I haven’t actually opened the pool yet to confirm though. The pool is encased in concrete and there is gravel and/or brick pavers beyond that. The only metal part within the pool as far as I can tell is the removable ladder.
