Hi Everyone, I have tested the CYA 2 times in the last 24 hours, both times I got the exact same result 35/40. Today I went to the pool store (pinch a penny) to refill my liquid chlorine jug and took a sample of water to test because why not. Every single result of theirs was pretty in line with my own testing other than Stabilizer... they had my level at 90. Yesterday I tested and got the 35/40, I immediately came home after the pool store and tested again and got the same 35/40. I followed the instructions correctly both times, facing away from the sun, looking down waste level etc. If the pool store is correct then my CYA level is really high.

Any thoughts on this? Any similar experiences from people in here? Which should I trust?

That was my initial thought, but how could it be so far off? 50+ ppms?
Their tester is defective. You think they care?

Ask them when did they last run a 50ppm standard solution through their tester?

90PPM is about the maximum their tester reads. That alone makes the bad reading suspicious.

If you feel it is your job to fix their testing then buy these solutions and have them test it...

Well, if you hadn't then you wouldn't be second-guessing your testing...

Everything you did sounds spot on for testing, and we don't trust pool store testing, so what reason would we have to not trust your testing?

Okay thank you, just got a little freaked out because 90 would mean its really high... and 35 is still a little low. I don't want to have to drain my pool and I was going to add a little more stabilizer. Maybe I will add a tiny bit and see if it changes at all next time I test.

We round up. Your CYA is 40.

CYA of 40 is fine for liquid chlorine this time of year.

I don't think your CYA is low. If it drops to 30 then add 20 ppm of CYA and bring it up to 50.
