My pool pump motors are lasting 3 years. I have 1 hp Century UST 1102. After the last 2 pool pumps motor were installed it leaked water.
The installer put some type of sealant, and changed the rubber seals the pumped continued to leak. What is the resolution?
Is there a difference between name brand pool pump motor UST 1102 and an aftermarket?
Thank you

I'm not sure what your problem is, but when the seals are changed, you should not get any leaking.

There are two possibilities that I can think of that could be causing the leakage, one is marring of the motor/pump shaft, no matter how many times you replace the seals, if the shaft is marred you will not get a seal. The other is using cheaper or incorrect seals, the seals need to be for the proper pump and of high quality. I'm not saying you can't get quality seals from Amazon or eBay, but I think the odds are better from a good pool store. I have had great success from inyopools

If the installer lubed the face of the shaft seal that's why you are eating them. The shaft seal is meant to be installed dry with the metal part of the seal facing the impeller, the white part of the seal plate seal should mate with the rubber part of the shaft seal and not be lubed.

The motor shaft does not affect the seal.

A cheap seal can be a problem.

Always use a top quality seal.

Use Seal lube to install the seal.

USE THE WRONG LUBE . . . GET THE WRONG RESULTS USE THE RIGHT LUBE . . . GET THE RIGHT RESULTS

Silicone or PTFE based lubricants are a poor choice when installing mechanical seals.

During seal installation, lubricants can come in contact with the sealing faces.

Silicone or PTFE based products are very difficult to remove from these faces.

When the pump is started, these products draw the carbon from the primary ring, transfers the material onto the mating ring face, causing a build up which leads to premature seal failure.

U.S. SEALUBE is a water based formula specifically designed to lubricate rubber, allowing for fast and easy seal installations.

It provides a high degree of lubricity to all rubber components but unlike PTFE or silicone based lubricants, U.S. SEALUBE evaporates, allowing the elastomer to grip the shaft or bore.

Elastomers are left dry to the touch.

The lubricity is gone and will not return even in the presence of moisture.

Your seal is now locked in place.

Motors don't leak water, but are damaged by it.
