Was hoping to be done with pool by now but several delays have put us behind. Pool is ready to be plastered but heatwave hit early. Decided to have pavers done before plaster due to temperatures over 110 this last week. Monday is coolest forecasted day at 103 but plaster crew is busy. Next 2 weeks forecasted lowest will be 105 on a couple different days but none at 110+. Than long range shows 110+. Obviously pools are built in Phoenix every summer with these temperatures. Everything I search says not to plaster above 95, that will not happen until fall. Does anyone have experience with plastering in Phoenix? Any thoughts about how high is too high to plaster?

Any thing over 95 degrees is adding complications.
Water to cement ratio comes into play, possibly less calcium in the mix.
Yes companies plaster in hotter weather but if given the opportunity they would prefer it to be cooler.
Humidity levels also have an impact on the curing process.

Thanks. I will have to make sure the plaster crew has plenty of experience adjusting to high temperatures. They claim to have a lifetime warranty on their workmanship. They will cover plaster installation issues. They will repair any excessive cracking or delaminating.

High heat and low humidity will be working against you.
I've seen a few summer time pool plastering jobs where they will tent the pool to keep the sun from shining directly on the entire pool surface until after it's filled.

Who is the plaster company?
If it's CalPlastering, call their office and discuss before scheduling.

I asked about putting a tarp to keep sun off plaster was told they didn’t know if it would help. I cannot see that it would hurt. I plan on hanging a tarp after they are finished.

The earlier in the day (before sun is on the pool) the better with respect to the tent/tarp.
The sun beating on the surface, along with the low humidity, will dry the surface out quickly.

What startup procedure are you planning on?

Maybe @onBalance has some insight on what would be best - especially this time of year.

I was planning on Bicarb, It supposedly is easiest on the plaster. We have low CH out here in Surprise. Tested 50 ppm over 4 tests and 1 pool store test. I want a startup that is easiest on the plaster as possible.

You're lucky to have a low CH.
Here in Chandler (city water), I'm at 250 with a TA of 140. Of course, I use a water softener plumbed to my autofill to help keep it from rising.

Yes, bicarb startup would be good.
Hopefully onBalance drops by this thread to give advice on the tenting and bicarb startup.

The plaster company should be willing (and experienced) to have a tarp over the pool to protect from direct sunlight. It is well known that high heat and low humidity prevents proper curing of fresh cement products.
I strongly recommend to place a tarp over the pool as soon as possible. It will definitely help the overall durability of the plaster finish. And of course, a bicarb startup is the best way to go.

They will repair any excessive cracking or delaminating.
The only proper way to "repair" excess cracking and/or delamination is with a full chip out and replaster.
If they were to just patch some areas, it would show every patch.

I hope more that the warranty will incentivize them to do the job correctly. I will be tenting the pool if they do not to keep direct sunlight off the curing plaster.
