Pool lost a LOT of water over winter

Our inground lost so much water over the winter that the shallow end is completely waterless. We typically drain it just under the return lines. So it lost probably 2 feet or so. Liner is 12 years old. Is it safe to say we probably need a new one? Trying to avoid filling up and then refill again if it leaks. Thanks for any advise!

P.S. Just noticed a hole in the winter cover. Could be the water coming up through that?

But we always do and it never is this low.
Well, let's hope it was cover related, 12 years may be getting close for that liner. If you don't see anything obvious, you can try to fill the pool and watch for water level changes.
