Pool draining mystery: why isn't my Coleman pool draining despite having it all set up correctly (I think)?

Y'all, I just cannot get my 18' x 48" Coleman Swim Vista II pool to drain via a brand new garden hose attached to the bottom drain hole, despite the fact that 1. I have the OEM adapter screwed on properly; 2. the valve inside the pool, underwater, is fully open; 3. the water is clear and free of debris; and 4. the garden hose seems to be below the level of the pool and drain hole. What am I doing wrong?

Ideally, I wanted to run the garden hose up a slight grade, across my backyard to my sewer cleanout, to drain the saltwater away, hoping that the force of the thousands of gallons of water would push itself up the yard to the cleanout hole. Now, I would be happy if I could just get the dang thing to drain in batches into my backwash hole, which is back by the pool and lower than the pool drain itself.

Halp?!

I believe you need a regular hose. I doubt that flex hose will work.

If you remove the hose, will water come out of the drain on the pool?
