First post, relatively new pool owner, but im having an issue with my polaris pb4-60 cycling when turned on.

I have a 1.5 hp main pump and when they are both running the polaris turns on for less than 30 seconds then shuts off for the same time and this will continue the whole time its in service.

I started the booster pump on its own to see if it did the same and it ran fine, no cycling, for the short period i let it run.

The booster is only a year old.

Could it be possible to have too much flow/pressure from the main pump?
Could it be pump runout? im not sure if there is a restictor plate in the wall valve (polaris 360). I will check that tomorrow.

Any help would be appreciated!

If you have a Polaris 360, DO NOT use that booster pump. It will destroy the hoses at the very least. The booster pump model is the 380. Are you running the pump on 120V? Is it set up in the wiring compartment for that voltage?

I was unaware of that, but yes it’s running on 120V and wired correctly.

Since i have the 360 should it just be run directly from the main pump return? my pool has a designated 1.5” return line for the vac, should i just plumb that into my other return lines?

The 360 was designed to be a non-booster pressure side cleaner. Polaris preferred it to be plumbed after the filter on a dedicated line. Most were actually plumbed through a valve atop the pump that split the flow and water first goes through a Jandy Energy Filter until those went away. The Energy filter was used on many pools in conjunction with the Jandy Ray Vac, a cleaner that was often given away by builders to "sweeten" the deal. They were inexpensive (so the cost to the builder was small), and when they worked did a fairly good job. Repairs were a nightmare.

so i’m guessing i should do away with the booster and just plumb the line for the polaris into the pool return lines
