So I bought a used Polaris 9550 for $100. I knew it was broken but thought I could fix it. Tried checking the floating cable and tightening the screws on the pins but that didn't work. Is Er 10 usually fixed by replacing the cable?

I suspect it may be in the cable right by the connector. See the brown tinge. Seems like there may have been a short there. I ordered the non swivel cable for a couple hundred, but also the connector plug for $30.

Plan 1: Cut the cable past the short and rewire to the new connector. If that fails (return the connector since it was amazon)

Plan 2: replace the cable all together. It was also amazon, so I can return if that fails.

Plan 3: professional repair

Well I found the issue. I tried to clean the corrosion with some vinegar but didn't work. I still have a new cable coming which I'll try. But I'm thinking the entire motor block is ruined. So that leaves me with buy a new motor for $500 or eat the cost and sell the control panel and caddy. At $500 I'm entering into the range where I'd be better off just buying a new one.

Well I'm not convinced the motor block is shot because that's another error code but rather I think someone before you did some tinkering and compromised the seal .....by not paying close attention thereby water got in and corrosion began. I've been through many and never came across what you have pictured. There's an inherent seal on the cable end which should take care of water intrusion. Clean up the motor contacts carefully and be careful not to use any process such as heavy sanding on the contacts which can reduce the dimension so slightly/enough that it can turn into a new problem by not having enough contact force between the male and female connections. Make sure not to damage or score the plastic around the contacts as that is where the water tight seal is made. I also use a dab of dielectric grease on the contacts which is extra insurance for good contact.

Hi - I'm having very similar problems. Did you ever get it running? Or did you just replace the whole thing? Thanks so much for any info!

Hi, so I ordered a new cable from amazon and tested it with the motor block and it turned on! So it was the floating cable that was bad.
However, at that point the body of the unit was so busted up not only from me taking it apart, it was nearly 7 years old from the previous owner. In my haste I broke the screwpoints holding the handle. So the unit would just fall apart in the water.
So I ended up parting it. I sold the control panel and motor block and ended up making a profit
I bought a new dolphin for $600 from amazon and got the 3 year extended warranty

What issue are you having?

I'll tell you from experience the swivel is useless after the 2nd season. Mine doesn't turn at all in the water. You can unscrew the connector that goes in the control unit though it is easy to repair that end. Fortunately after 6 seasons, the only issue I have had is the that connector.
