Hey everyone, I have a variety of questions I hope you all could help me with!

I'm installing a Hayward h200FDN natural gas heater. Gas installer is doing the line, connection, pressure test, etc. I am doing the plumbing and electrical. I am also considering getting a new pump.

1. Does the heater have an internal flow check that will shut off the heater if the pump stops pumping for some reason or do I need to install an external one?

2. How important is it to install a bypass line? Can I do without it?

3. Is it okay if the mechanical timer the pump and heater are hooked up to turn both on and off together at the same time? Or does the heater need to get turned off before the pump turns off?

4. There don't seem to be a lot 2-speed pump options out there these days, at least not for sale in Canada. Any recommendations for a 2-speed?

5. If I stay with a single speed is my current 1 HP super pump big enough or should I upgrade to a 1.5HP since I'm adding the heater in?

1. Yes, it has an internal flow as well as hi-temp switch.
2. You don't need it but it is convenient.
3. Most gas heaters need a cooldown period where water is still flowing even though they are off. Consider automation.
4. Go directly to VSP.
5. Should be ok.

I suggest you get the 400k BTU heater. It will heat a lot faster.
