I’ve had the Pentair ScreenLogic system for three years. All of a sudden the pool heat will come on by itself upon startup in the morning. Can anyone tell me why this would start happening after 3 years? I’ve not changed any of the settings or schedules.

You need to dig into the menus. Something changed, your pool heater was "enabled," and sometimes it does it on its own, or a "button" was touched when scrolling. If not there, disconnect the heater from the automation and see what happens.

No buttons were pressed. It happens when it comes on in the morning. Not sure what “disconnect heater from automation” means. The only automation I have set is the pool pump coming on in the morning, turning off at the end of the day and the perimeter lights coming on at night.

Could it be his temperature sensor? If it went bad, and the system thinks the pool is colder than it is? Would that explain how something changed when the OP didn't change anything?

Possibly a defective miniature relay on the board remaining latched (melted internal contacts) makes it look like a heat demand. On the board two wires connect to the heater contacts, pull off the connector and check continuity between the 2 contacts when the board is powered down. No continuity means problem is elsewhere possibly the water temp sensor, having continuity proves the relay is bad.

Your Pentair EasyTouch system with Screenlogic is your automation system.

You have automation for the heater and do not control the heater from its local control panel.

“disconnect heater from automation” means disconnect the heater from your EasyTouch system and run it through its local control panel.

With "Screen Logic," which is only the human interface (control), you are controlling some type of automation (automatic control system). Unless you, your builder, a service person, a handyman, either never connected the heater to what ever system you have (Easy Touch, Intelli-Touch, or the like), or removed it, there is a small wire that runs from the heater to the control panel. That is how the heater is turned on and off from that panel. You need to find out whether the issue is in the heater itself or in the control panel (automation). That wire needs to be removed from the control and the heater returned to OEM state to diagnose.
