Pentair freeze protection

Re: Pentair Easy Touch Freeze Protection Setting

Miles,

I believe that you can enable or disable the pump's freeze protection via the control panel on the pump. You would have to unplug the serial cable first, turn off the freeze protection, then reconnect the serial cable. Your EasyTouch should still turn on whatever you set in ScreenLogic.

Re: Pentair Easy Touch Freeze Protection Setting

Thanks Jim. Since I already have an email alert setup in ScreenLogic and can confirm my Freeze Protection is activating from the Easy Touch, I'll just leave it be - it works. It kicks on my pump to 1500 RPM which moves about 30 GPM according to my Flowvis.

Freeze Protection seems to trigger when air temp is 36F. Not sure if that variable can be changed.

No, and i wouldn't advise running it at that speed IMO. It can at times create quite a vibration at that low rpm. I wouldn't want to subject the pump to that, and it would be un-necessary to do so.

Default speed for freeze protection is 1000rpm. The default range you can set freeze protection to run at is from 450-3450 rpm.

I have heard of this, from my Brother [He has a similar VS pump to mine, but not the same]. I don't remember my motor vibrating at all this slowly, but I'm going to play with it tonight to see. Can it be that specific revisions of the VS Pentair pumps operate more/less smoothly?

No, probably has to do with plumbing configuration, whether the pump got bolted down, things like that. I don't think its a software version thing.

If you're using EasyTouch where do you set the freeze protection RPM default?
If your not sure, leave it on the default (1000). Or if you want to play around with it, continue to ramp the pump down, if it begins to vibrate, go back up on the RPMs by say 100.

Spoke to Pentair. They indicated with EasyTouch automation, FP is activated for a circuit when air temp drops below 36F and the pump will run from that point until the air temp reaches 40F, ignoring any schedules.

Also, the pump will run at the RPM of the circuit for which FP was configured. In my case, my normal RPM setting is 1400 RPM so that is what FP will run at.

I think the lowest RPM is 650 or 750. One thing to note on the Intelliflo is wattage at various RPM. You will often find that the wattage is the same or close at RPM between 700 and 1200. So you might as well run it at a higher RPM to get more flow for the same money. At 1100 RPM mine uses 150 watts. At 10.25c/kWh it costs less than 12 bucks a month to run the pump 24x7.
