hi,

has anyone installed them and are they compatible with the jandy aqualink or do I have to get the complete Wi-Fi kit? There beautiful bright lights compared to the crappy Pentair one I got which h I never wish I bought now I'm stuck with 2 pools and one spa which I'm gone repack with these cool pal lights soon so there gone be avatar sale there less then 1 year old and never used side I been in Europe and still haven't uses my pool. I also looked in to the Florida sun seeker as a replacement for bright better even light distribution as well less expensive and work but the pal color touch is beautiful and modern. Any info will be great!

s,

I've spent considerable time looking for good-looking, reliable LED lights more recently for my pool and previously for my blue water sailboat my wife and I sailed 25000 miles on. Applications are similar since water intrusion is the obvious enemy. At first almost all lights got big attention because the heart of the technology is the 20,000 hr life expectancy of the LED. But almost all early brands failed in a couple years or less. Problem wasn't even identified for a few years. Turns out everything done to keep the water out caused a killer problem... Heat!. The electronics required to operate the LED are mounted in the light itself for several good geeky reasons. They are also very susceptible to heat damage. This causes the unit to fail way before the LED fails. Now manufacturers are developing better and better ways to get the heat out plus design circuitry more resistant to heat. So lights are lasting longer. We had all our Jandy lights replaced under warranty in the first year 6 years ago when the failed completely. The replacements seem to be dimming a lot now and may be failing again. So I've started looking into this again. My conclusions from both experiences with LED lights:
  • All brands had a lot of failures early and actually Pentair was better than most but still problematic.
  • You can't buy on aesthetic appeal only.
  • Look for a brand that also shows their technology addresses the heat issue.
I hope this helps.

I should be getting my Florida Sun Seeker lights tomorrow. I'll post first impressions. I'm replacing two 15 year old Amerlites that have leaked enough to corrode the lamp bases. To me, the sealed, fully potted design seems much more reliable. Still pretty pricey, but less than the Intellibrites.
