I have a can of paint left by the previous owner. It is a perfect match for the trim in the house. Sitting in the can for 3 years, it did form a skin on top. After mixing, it is a bit chunky. I was looking at paint strainers at Lowes. They don't look much different than hairnets I used in the skimmer baskets. That got me to thinking about trying that first since I got a large supply of them. Has anyone tried to use a hairnet before to strain paint?

Seems like it should work as long as the paint solvent does not dissolve the hairnet.

Maybe put some of the paint on a hairnet to see if the hairnet dissolves or gets sticky.

Next experiment if needed is pantyhose.

*assuming we are looking at the fun of doing it with on hand supplies. Cheesecloth is stupid cheap and a 4 pack is $5.50 on Amazon.

I'm the other way around. All I ever use in my skimmer are the 1-gal paint strainer nets from HD. One net lasts me a full season easy if not longer. Once full, I just turn it inside-out and, slap it against something a few times to get the bugs out, and put it back in.

Or the paper funnels from HD or Lowes (as long as you have the larger chunks out already.

I saw them. I'm just looking at stuff I already own. I have a 100 pack of hair nets. Also the hair nets have more surface area for straining. I can see those paper funnels getting clogged quickly.
