I manually vaccuumed my pool for first time today and noticed the PSI went pretty high: from 20 -> 25. I noticed a loud noise immediately when I started vacuuming - maybe a lot of dirt went to filter ? 'm thinking of backwashing but not sure which direction to operate the push pull valve in. My old pool guy told me it almost broke once and said these are really fragile. Can someone let me know if it's counter clockwise (blue) and then pull up or clockwise (red) and then pull up . Also do I need to open the pressure valve on the filter top before starting ? Thanks for the help in advance!

Sounds like your slider valve has not been used in a while.

Did you read Slide Valves - Further Reading ?

75200 Zer0 Pool and Spa Lubricant can be used to release a stuck slider. Pull the valve up as much as you can and squirt the lube very liberally around the O ring. Work the slider up and down and turning it as much as you can to get the lube down into the slider.

No, didn't realize your problem was getting it unlocked.

It looks like you can remove the slider by unscrewing the top cap. You may need to pull it out and see why it is locked up.

Here is your manual for the valve.

Unscrew part 2 to pull out the valve to examine it.

If you end up needing to replace the slider valve I suggest you consider replacing it with an MPV.

You cannot backwash the filter if you can’t get it unlocked.

This let’s you remove the piston to examine it and see why it is not moving the way it should.

My o-rings finally arrived today. I was waiting for them to arrive before trying to take out the piston. The orings looked fine to me. I cleaned the piston and added lube around the existing rings. It was really easy.

I did notice a leak on top afterwards but it went away again after going to backwash and back to locked position. Not sure - Ill keep an eye on it for now. If any problems next week ill likely change the orings.

Update: It was stuck again - couldnt get it to unlock. Changed the o-rings and re-lubed . Hope it won’t get stuck again…
 
I think it may be time to replace the slider valve.
