So it’s been just over a year since I bought the S1, so I thought I would do a little write up.
Overall I am pretty pleased with this little cleaner. I run it almost every day since it is very easy to do. It’s actually in the pool right now.
Convenience: No cord, no caddy, lightweight. I unplug it push the button twice to put it in floor mode drop it in the pool and off it goes. No need to mess with the surface skimmers since there is no cord. When it is finished cleaning it parks at the edge of a wall and I use a hook to pick it up. I bought a cheap pool pole for $8 from Amazon and now have a dedicated pole to pick this up. Because the basket is a mesh and not pleated filters I dont rinse it off or empty the basket every day. It is so convenient that it has been months since I used my M500.
Cleanliness: It does a good job cleaning the pool. Picks up sand and fine debris as well as all the leaves. Does not do well with palm fronds but no cleaner does. Does not clean the steps, but no cleaner does either. It gets full coverage of the pool and when it’s done the pool is clean.
Longevity: It has been sent in for repair once. It was not charging, Aiper said it was a battery issue. Shipping back and forth and repair time was about two weeks. I am not expecting this thing to last a very long time but I am ok with that. I treat it like a disposable tool. I bought it with a credit card that extends the warranty so if it breaks in year 3 I will get my money back. If it lasts to 4 years I am happy with it and will get a new one.
Service: Like I said earlier it has had to go back for repair once already. The process was pretty painless. Send an email to Aiper with the purchase information. They give you a return shipping label and two weeks later it is back. Make sure to keep your box.
Other information worth knowing: After about a year the basket did not completely come clean. Some stuff just dried on too hard. It caused a reduction in suction and the basket did not drain fully when I pulled it out of the pool. I put in a warranty repair for the basket, but that part is only covered for 3 months. You can buy a new basket for $39. Not cheap, but not too expensive. Not wanting to waste the money I figured I would try a TSP soak in a 5 gallon bucket. 4 hours later the basket was almost like new. Saved myself a few bucks.
Overall again I am very happy with this purchase and I bought the cheapest one because I expect it to fail and I am amortizing the cost over the years that it works.
