Hello!
We have had the Dolphin Triton PS since our pool was first completed, in late 2019. Well, it started acting funny (would not go for more than a few seconds) and we brought it in for diagnosis after we checked all of the obvious things. They told us the control board (I think it was called something else, but it was basically the brains of the robot) had to be replaced and would be nearly $600+ to do so.
This brought us on the hunt for a new robot because we cannot see spending that much to repair the one we had, which also needs new tracks and a new bearing, etc. soon.
We got with Marina Pool Supply per many recommendations I found on this board. They are super helpful and kind. We decided to go with the Active 30/S300 and have been waiting over a month for it to arrive to their store. Well, their delivery finally arrived but didn't have any of the Active 30 or S300 in their shipment. Boo!
Now we have to choose something different. Because I do not like manually vacuuming or skimming our pool and the leaves are dropping like crazy.
Truly, we upgraded to the Active 30/S300 so we could get the WiFi connectivity. Fast forward now -- the first option that has this is quite a bit more expensive than the A30/S300 was (nearly $300) and we don't really think that's worth it. Plus, the Triton was nearly $1k and died after just over 2 years so we are kind of "over" spending a lot of money on these things already.
So, my question is --- Can the Explorer E30 or Triton PS be controlled via a WiFi plug? The issue is that when we are out of town for longer than the weekly scheduler allows, our pool is a tragic mess when we get back so it would be awesome to be able to turn it on while we are away longer than the weekly scheduler allows for.
Our other option seems to be the Pentair Prowler 920 which does not have ANY additional features than the above, and is more expensive. Plus, from reading other posts here, their warranty is more difficult to deal with. But also, I understand it is just a rebranded Dolphin anyways. We also already have a cart for the Triton, which should also fit the Explorer E30 (I think, it looks basically the same) - if anyone knows otherwise please let me know.. so we do not need to buy and spend another $150 on a cart we don't need.
Is the E30 a good machine?
Should I risk it and just get another Triton?
The E30 is a bit less than the Triton. And sadly, both of these are about the same cost as what we were going to pay for the A30/S300 without the cart
