Good afternoon! I wish I would have found this great forum before I started the construction process, but am glad to have found it nonetheless.

We started the bid process back in early March, and selected our PB (and signed a contract) on April 2nd. After some permitting and weather delays, dig day was 5/11.
Plumbing went in 5/14 and rebar was done on 5/15. Shotcrete was delayed until 5/21 and the waterline tile went in 5/25. Currently waiting on stone and rock to be delivered tomorrow and hopefully install on Thursday although with all the rain we have had, I am not so sure!

Dig day went off without a hitch – had to stray from the original design slightly as the grade of our backyard was a little more than we originally thought. Brings the raised beam to 36” tall, which is higher than I would have liked, and it runs the length of the pool.

Plumbing and rebar was completed a couple of weeks ago – everything went pretty smoothly with those two days.

Shotcrete day was 5/21 and was fun to watch!
Final dimensions are 23’ wide in the shallow end from the tanning ledge to the raised beam, 15’ in the middle at the narrowest point, and 18’ wide in the deep end (right below the spa). Overall it turned out about as good as I could have hoped from a size standpoint.

Installed the waterline tile on 5/25, and are now waiting on the rock and flagstone to be delivered to get those installed.

NICE! I really like the design! Well done! Good job making the wall work. You will be glad of it the first big rain you get!

I do wonder if you will need to put up some kind of railing to keep people from jumping into the shallow end from the spa shelf. (Thinking of my husband and some other friends and family members )

That is my (and my wife's) exact concern - we talked about maybe doing some sort of railing and carry it down the stairs as well to really tie it in, but have not decided for sure yet.
I've been looking at pictures for something similar to get an idea of how it would look...but don't love anything so far.
Maybe we can get away with some potted plants or something right there at the top of the stairs to dissuade the jumping in the shallow end...

Not sure how deep your pockets are:

glass railing - Google Search

Does not block the view of the property.

Or this: black fiberglass railing - Google Search

Comes in fiberglass!

Or there is this: iron railing with points - Google Search

Note the pointies on top! LOL NO one will climb that!!!!

I do like the idea of the planters. You can put cactus in them to keep people out. I bet just the fact the planters are there will also stop most people BUT the plants will be something else to take care of as well as adding stuff to fall into the water

I do like the idea of doing it on the the steps as well. Good thinking!

Looks great!

Lovely part of the country. My son is a Cadet at UNG in Dahlonega - we make it down your way a few times per year. Good luck with the rest of your build.

We are also in Ga and looking for builders. Can you tell me/us what builder you went with? Also if you don't mind telling us what the cost is, it would be helpful to compare quotes we are getting. Thnx!

Then we finished the big part of landscaping in mid June - 7 pallets of tif tuff bermuda...I hired a couple of kids from the neighborhood to come help, turned out really good!

And finally - on June 25th we started filling it up. Right at 20K gallons.

Just over 6 weeks from dig day to fill day.
As of yesterday we got final county sign-off and are officially done with the construction stage, but we have been enjoying it these last few weeks!

Thanks so much! It really turned out exactly how we wanted. It seems like most projects I do I get to the end and say “I wish I would have done that if I had known better”. But with this one, there is basically nothing I would change, so that’s a relief!

Using the high school kids was definitely the way to go, win-win for both of us!
