So we have a pretty large pool that is built about 2' out of the ground with a block retaining wall around it, and stamped concrete on top of it. It's a rectangle roughly 50' x 70'. We currently do not have concrete in the space between the pool and the house and detached. We've met with a few different concrete guys and are getting differing advice/opinions.
My main concern is getting the water off the concrete and away from the house. I've included an aerial. The yellow solid line is what we're leaning towards, which is a channel drain about 2' off the retaining wall. Concrete would slope from the house and the pool towards that, then run off to the ditches on both sides of the house. Only issue is potentially cost...the channel drain alone is going to run us $2,500-$3,000. And it's kind of an eye sore in my opinion. But I think it'll do the job.
My other thought was to not use channel drains at all, and essentially have the area in red be a flower bed with box drains spaced every 5' or so, which would then run to the ditches. They'd be surrounded by large rock so not very visible and it would be significantly cheaper.
Based on the different elevations in that area (height of detached steps, existing driveway, steps built off the retaining wall, crawl space opening, and the ditches), just being able to get the water to run naturally off the concrete to the ditches is probably not an option.
I guess I'm looking for someone to tell me I'm dumb and that there's a better option!
