Hi Everyone,

I found this website and happy to be a first time poster.

I have a 20x40 inground concrete pool that is 10'deep and 5' in the shallow end (it was built in the 70's and still going strong). I want to install a few lights before this years pool season and haven't been able to find anything on the internet; everything is geared for pools with liners.

Does anyone have tips on drilling into existing concrete, sealing and the niche that should be used? I found this niche below but not sure what would best suite this application.

Thanks,

Welcome to TFP.

I suggest you look at installing nicheles LED lights that can go into 1.5" PVC like...

Then you just need to core drill holes for the pipes, seal around the pipes with hydraulic cement, attach electrical conduit to the other end of pipe, and do normal pool LED electrical wiring.

You have any experience core drilling though 8" of concrete?

Thanks for this information.

I've jack-hammered concrete basements for plumbing replacement and supporting piles and drilled through brick. Never something like this.

I called CMP and asked for the correct size concrete core drill bit. The tech person will try to find that information and get back to me. Any chance you know which core drill bit to use?

Also, how many would you recommend in a 20 x 40 pool? I was thinking of starting with 5 on one side and see how that works this summer.

You never know what @jimmythegreek knows although he does vinyl liner pools.

It partly depends what color your plaster is. Dark plaster absorbs more light and requires more.

Pentair guideline is to aim for 4 lumens per square foot of pool surface. For example, if the pool is 500 sq-ft then you need 500x4=2000 lumens. This would be 4 MicroBrites or 2 IntelliBrite rgb.

Pentair has this table for their lights...

Jandy has an excellent LED Lighting Design Guide.
