We just had our pool plastered on Tuesday and we were wondering when it is okay to add Chlorine to the pool? We are taking the water to the pool store today to get tested, but is it too soon to start adding chemicals, or is there a need to wait longer? Thanks

Follow your builders instructions so as not to void your warranty. The below is the TFP startup advice.

Thanks. The builder just provided "Pool Chemicals In the first month: Once pool is started up begin taking weekly water samples to your local pool supply store and follow their recommendations and/or follow pool maintenance company recommendations."

Ah cool - then follow that link I sent.

  • After 72 hours add the Cyanuric Acid and then the chlorine SLOWLY to gradually bring it to the desired level.

Stay out of the pool store!

If you intend to follow TFP advice, it is all based around doing your own testing and learning what to do about the results.
Swimming Pool Test Kits Compared will give you more insight.

So TFP is all about teaching you how and why to test. Pool Store testing and advice is simply unreliable. If you have already been there, you should return anything you purchased and start over using TFP advice.
