We just got our pool put in two weeks ago it has the sand dollar pump SD40 And it has that ionizer system also.they put one 40 pound bag of poil salt in the pool water as we filled it up. They said we won't need to put salt in ever again. This was a one time thing for new pools only. But they said we need to put a gal of bleach in a week. And that's it. They put 2 gals of bleach in at start up. Now our pool bottom feels slick and the side walls too. Our pool holds about 14000 gals of water. We run the pump about 8 hours a day. We talked with another pool company they said we still need to shock our pool once a week with shocker and that we need to put a floater in with chlorine tablets. Blue world pool says we don't need to shock it and we don't use chlorine at all other than a gal of bleach a week . So how are we to keep the pool clean and not slimy on the bottom and side walls? We never had a pool like this before just old cheap Walmart pools that last a free years then get a new one but the wife wanted a big big pool and it's just her and I. Anyway I don't care for the ionizer at all and don't know what to do. Our pump is a sand dollar SD40 WHICH I THINK IS FILL OF sand. Should we use shocker and chlorine tabs and forget about using bleach? Thanks

You do not want to incorporate any copper products in your water treatment. Copper levels build and cause big problems later. Stick to liquid chlorine and/or SWG. Salt does need to be replenished from time to time when water is exchanged. Test strips of course are simply horrible. Besides a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C for normal testing, you might also consider a Taylor K-1766 for precise salt testing.

The amount of salt required is directly related to the SWG recommended levels in your SWG manual and your pool size. The PoolMath APP can help you wiht that.

You mentioned them adding salt during the fill, so that would imply you have an SWG to produce chlorine. If you don't then it doesn't matter and I would wonder why they added salt to begin with.

You have a standard pump and sand filter. That's fine. But you also have an ionizer that will add copper and do basically nothing to help with sanitation. Why they are sold is still a mystery, but you need to use liquid chlorine to keep algae away and manage your water properly. The proper test kit, along with balancing FC to the current CYA as noted on the FC/CYA Levels is key.

How do I do away with the ionizer? Pools under warranty if I take it off it will void it can I just unplug it and leave it off?I see the pics now.

I've order some shock can I also put a floater in the pool with chlorine tablets in it to help? We are very new to this I'm 60 years old and I don't care for a pool at all but the wife wanted one. Happy wife happy life. And I'm going to order a good test kit they just gave us the test strips with this pool.didnt tell us how to back wash or anything at all.I see the pics now.
