My pool is about 18 years old, I have 3 lamps in the pool and 1 in the spa. These are halogen lamps with the long wire to enable bulb replacement. Over the years I replaced all the bulbs 1-3 times but last year I was surprised to find the lamp in the spa tripped the circuit breaker when I turned it on. I replaced the bulb but still every time I tried to turn it on the breaker tripped. The pool lamps are fine. I asked the pool builder, who also services my pool, and he said it's a broken insulation on the wire you need to replace the whole light not bulb. New light is $850 plus tax and labor. It sounds kind of expensive- does it seem off? Do people DIY this type of repair?

Pool lights are very expensive. That is about right for something like a Jandy LED Watercolor light. The issue is pulling a new wire from your equipment pad to the niche. That can be and all day task.

The new LED lights are very nice and have many different lighting patterns. Since they are LED they should last a very very long time.
As far as pulling the conductors up the conduit, it may only take a few minutes if the original install was proper.
The replacements come in a verity of conductor lengths depending on your needs.

While the LED lights should last a long time, in reality they don't for pool use.
Expensive initially amd expensive to replace even the bulbs.

what is this statement base on??
Member reports over the last few years. Anecdotal evidence posted in the forums.
It seems the reliability of LED lights/bulbs in a pool is way shorter than an LED used in ones house.
