I am replacing a 2007 and prior Hayward Northstar pump, SPX4020. It has the non-threaded Quad Lock unions, spx4000unpak1. The new pump is a Black and Decker variable speed pump with common 2-inch threaded unions. The output side of the pump is just going to take some re-piping with PVC pipe, no problem. The intake side of the pump is the problem. The non-threaded union butts right up to the valves requiring me to replace three valves to change to a threaded union. Is there any way to adapt from the old style, non-threaded Hayward union to a standard 2-inch threaded union?1.jpegward union to a standard 2-inch threaded union?

The union should take a 2" coupling to the outside.

The valve will take a 2.5" union to the outside.

Use a 2 x 2.5" reducer coupling to join them.

Cut at the red line and a 2.5" coupling will fit over the valve.

Thank you for the quick reply. The OD of the valve is 2.75". Do you know of a 2.75" to 2" reducer?

Cut the old Hayward part off flush with the valve. Install a 2" pipe extender. Attach the new union to it. The very-short reduction in the inside diameter will have no affect on water-flow.

The OD of the valve is the same as the OD of 2.5" PVC pipe.

A 2.5" coupling will work.

Thanks again, I think I like the idea of a 2 x 2.5" reducer best. I haven't found one yet. I guess I could use a 2.5" coupler and a bushing. I am still looking for 2.5" PVC pressure fittings. Do you know a good source?
