Ok, I've had a Dolphin M500 for about 8 years now, 3-4 years ago it started acting strange, so I sent it back to Maytronics to have a look, it was just out of warrantee (of course) but Maytronics replaced the guts free of charge anyway so kudos to them!! So, a couple weeks ago it started acting up again, so I sent it in again, and yes, WAY out of warrantee this time so I would have to pay to fix it. I thought I'd do some research on the new stuff out there and see what was there. "WATERLINE CLEANING", that was not an option way back when I got the first one so I was ready for a change! Looked at a bunch of bots but after reading reviews and comparing features I was back to getting a Dolphin, after all they treated me well in the past which is a big deal to me! I sometimes get lots of leaves in my pool seeing as I live in the woods, The premier looked like the way to go as it had not only the cartridge filters but a large bag I could uses as well. Looks about identical to my M500 but had the waterline cleaning as well so I thought I'd give it a shot! So, price comparison time! I found a place called Poolbots.com that had an open box option that included a full Maytronics factory warrantee, and a no questions 30-day trial try it out policy! So I ordered the Premier and had it sent to me, it worked just fine, but I have a fiberglass pool with about 4-5 inch wide toe ledge that runs around the entire perimeter of the pool so you can climb out anywhere around the pool. Problem is the Premier would not go past it, so no waterline cleaning, RATS! Called poolbots and after a little consultation decided to try the Quantum cleaner, a bit different design but with a large easy access "garbage" bin. Same exact price for the Quantum out of box as the Premier out of box so we set up an exchange, one for the other. Packed the Premier all up sent it back and then got the Quantum. I was excited to see how it did! Got it all set up and, in the pool, turned it on and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! No shake shimmy or shudder just nothing at all! On the phone again to explain the situation, sent a video of it doing nothing, the sent me a return label and as soon as I dropped it off at the Fedex place they started a new one on its way, got it yesterday! Yes it all started as an open box deal but the new one I received was a brand-new unit, never opened! Got it in the pool and voila works as it should, and it did not care about the toe shelf. So now I have a new bot that will do my waterline!! YAY!
EDIT TO ADD: If anyone here is a electronics wiz and would be interested in my M500, you think you could fix it or something I'll let you have it cheap remote and all (cost me $1500)
Wish I could figure out how to post a video, I would show you it working? Youtube link:
