Multiport valve/sand filter question

Last season we replaced the laterals and sand in our Heyward filter. We replaced the failed SWG as well and proceeded to SLAM to clear pool after struggling with no SWG. After TWO weeks at SLAM and pool remaining cloudy (as in still couldn't see bottom of deep end), we took the multiport valve back off thinking we may have reinstalled something incorrectly. We didn't see anything wrong with spider gasket or any other assembly so we put it back together; However, something must have been wrong because it started filtering noticeably different in less than 24 hours after being taken apart and put back on and had no further issues the rest of the season. Asking this because it seems like the filter is not filtering properly again. Wondering if there is a common error I'm overlooking before I start buying replacement parts

"Not filtering properly." In what way? Did you just add back the sand that was removed or add new? Was it the proper amount? Was it "pool filter" sand?

Last season we replaced the sand with the manufacturer's recommended type and weight of sand. We replaced the laterals. When I say not filtering properly, I mean after constant running for more than 24-48 hours it appears the pump is running on recirculate when it is on filter. The pool is very cloudy (can't see bottom of deep end) and the pump pressure is not rising.

I asked the question thinking there could be some common mistake I'm overlooking because of the experience last season where after replacing laterals and sand, the pump ran for ~2 weeks while following slam procedure and there was no clearing of the water so we took the valve and top off to reinspect our assembly. We didn't find anything that looked wrong with how we had assembled it after replacing parts and sand so we put it back on and continued to run the pump and the water started clearing within the next 24 hours after that. I know I may be sounding crazy but something was wrong that we fixed when taking it apart again. Had the pool ~14 years now and been following TFP Care guidelines for ~13 years. Will get pics of pad and model number
