Mesh Cover Or Leaf Net

Anyone use a mesh cover or leaf net when not using the pool. Every year my neighbors trees begin dropping leaves in early Jul and each year I spend much time getting the leaves out of the pool. I even cut back the branches last year, but the trees are quite large and of course have many leaves.

I've used a leaf net during early Fall (pecan, red oaks) and early Spring (live oaks). We have 24-25 trees that are close enough to get leaves into pool depending on wind.

I don't know if I'd tell you it's any easier/better than a good robot and a good net.

The added added added bonus of 24/7 runtime was that 99.5% of those leaves / pollen strings / etc made it to the skimmer long before they got waterlogged and sank. If it wasn't for circulation dead spots, 100% of them would have made it.

I use a mesh cover when the pool is closed for the winter. It works pretty well. It wouldn’t be something I’d use during the summer since it takes a bit of time to remove and install. I have a tons of leaves blowing in as well and just use a deep leaf net and the robot. Also get my kids to clean the skimmers every day.

I run my pump 24/7 but the skimming at 1200 rpm is a lot different than the skimming at 2400 rpm or higher.

I got one last year to use over my solid cover at closing & decided to try it out while the pool was open. It complicated things since the leaves would be stuck in the mesh & not blow away like I thought they would & sort of created a tea bag situation. I had to run my robot alot under the cover because some leaf pieces would eventually fall through - also it’s not very aesthetically pleasing to look at.
Without the mesh cover my skimmer would have made quick work of the leaves as they fell & the wouldn’t have accumulated & sat 1/2 in 1/2 out of the water.
I can see possibly using it if you’re concerned with debris filling up your skimmer while on vacation or something.
It’s real claim to fame is on top of the solid cover- I have had it on since closing. After the majority of the leaves had fallen I pulled it off, dumped it out & put it back. Between it & my automatic cover pump my cover has stayed pretty much dry & debris free!
