Material for beach entry, flagstone, slate, quartzite??

Having a beach entry on new pool, we thought about flagstone, and after going and looking at it, I think it's going to be to porous. I have read about flagstone flaking.
what's everyone's thoughts on flagstone, or slate or even quartzite flagstone?
it will be out of water and then submerged on the tanning shelf also.
what's advantages and disadvantages on them or what else can be used?

The best option would be to use an unglazed tile where the existing are is out of water. Next best option is a quartzite type stone that will not flake. Both options are long term solutions that will last very long time if done correctly.

Beach Entry Repair

The original pool builders for our pool made a beach entry using plaster and pebble tech. The plaster above water bubbled and cracked. I’m in the process of chipping and cutting it out. The plaster is roughly an inch thick with reinforced concrete underneath. What would be my best option for...
