I've been working this week on getting the pool cleaned up. I had a algae issues and in the middle of treating it and my pump housing spring a massive leak. It had been running and I hadn't noticed any leak around the pump this week, but have been getting some air in the basket so knew I had air getting in somewhere. I shut down the pump and tightened everything down ie Pressure gauge, DE Filter clamps, etc. When I restarted the system a large leak started spraying water from under the metal clamp ring. Shut down tightened it up and that didn't fix it. I pulled the ring and pull the pump/housing apart. Cleaned, reseated both visible gaskets. Even put a bit of 100% silicon o-ring grease to help seal and it didn't help. I've hit about my end of knowledge on next steps. What are the next parts to pull/replace? It's a Sta-Rite Intellipro Variable Speed pump and housing. As well I have a System 3 DE filter as well. Any help would be great. I just finished shocking the pool and running it with some Algaecide and need to finish getting it cleaned. I even rotated the gasket once to see if I could get a seal. Is it strange the it leaks at the same place no matter which way I turn the o-ring?

If the pump head parts aren't cracked/distorted, it sounds like a bad o-ring. There are replacement kits available online. Check out this post also:

Sounds like you may have a leak around the shaft (mechanical) seal which is a little deeper than what you've been doing. Tell us the exact model number of your pump and maybe we can help a bit more. But you can see an illustration of the mechanical seal on a VSP HERE. Look at item #12. That may be your issue.

Yea, I’m hoping my local pool place around the corner has the o-rings when I call tomorrow. I’m worried about it sitting there with 6 packs of shock in the pool and no pump running. I put the algae treatment in and need to vacuum and clean the filter tonight. Really bad timing for this to blow.
Stick a submersible pump in it on stairs and shoot water sideways in the pool. Works great for emergency circulation. I'd check the mating surfaces if its gushing same spot regardless of oring position you may have a crack

So it turns out there is a hairline crack on the tank body side of the pump. I’m going to need a new tank body. What’s a good source to order a new body? Preferably someone still shipping in a pandemic...
