Manufacture warns not to use Liquid Chlorine or Dichlor

I think you may have confused Dichlor with trichlor.

My tub, at least, only allowed Dichlor chlorine.

They advise against using liquid chlorine because brick and mortar stores that sell their products, don't want to compete with big box stores in bleach prices, volume, or stale product. It really is a problem of lack of imagination on the part of many small business owners. As a truck driver, I've hauled a semi trailer full of pool labeled bleach, and added up, it really isn't that much bleach. Water weighs a lot, and a B&M pool store could have full bleach trailers backing up weekly, servicing something like 500 pools.

I've experimented with trichlor pucks in my tub. The problem with trichlor is it is VERY acidic. If the owner doesn't counteract the acidity, the water becomes corrosive, and ruins the heater. It happens really fast with the pucks. They got sick of paying for new heaters I think, so trichlor voids warranties.

The truth of the matter is, it's all the same chemical when you or anyone else tests for it. There is no way to know what form the chlorine came from.

For every 10 ppm Free Chlorine (FC) added by Trichlor, it also increases Cyanuric Acid (CYA) by 6.1 ppm and decreases Total Alkalinity (TA) by 7.1 ppm.
For every 10 ppm FC added by Dichlor, it also increases CYA by 9.1 ppm and decreases TA by 3.5 ppm.
For every 10 ppm FC added by Cal-Hypo, it also increases Calcium Hardness (CH) by at least 7 ppm and increases TA by about 0.4 ppm.
For every 10 ppm FC added by ANY source of chlorine, there will be 8.2 ppm salt from when the chlorine gets used/consumed and converts to chloride. For bleach, chlorinating liquid, and lithium hypochlorite, there is an additional 8.2 ppm salt added upon addition so the net result is 16.5 ppm salt from these sources and the TA rises by 0.1-0.6 ppm depending on the amount of "excess lye" in the product.
