Lounge chair with bubble

Howdy,

Has anyone seen this type of feature before? I experienced this in Prague a while back and it was very nice.

The bottom of the pool is shaped like a lounge chair with bubblers spaced a few inches apart shooting air/water straight up. When you sit down, the shape of the concrete makes you sit like you're in a lounge chair and the bubblers float you off of the surface. You don't slide off the bubblers and you can move a bit if another part of your body needs bubbles/massage. It seats three (or four small people) and the sides have arm rests, just like a couch.

Wife and I are looking to build a pool this year and were are in the design phase.

  • Wondering if this is possible by a pool builder (Houston area)
  • If so, what would the cost be?
  • Would it need it's own pump?
  • We're thinking that this would take the place of the sun deck.
  • - Chairs would not need to be bought as the pool bottom itself is the chair.
  • I'm still trying to guess the depth, maybe 15 inches below surface.
  • Anything we're missing on this?

Any input would be appreciated.

The pictures are of the same pool but it's been refinished evidently. The lady on the right has her knees up to her chest in the picture. If you saw the movie Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) then you saw the hotel this pool is located in. The building used to be the Central Bank Building and the entire basement is a pool/sauna/spa/steam room. It's really nice.

Welcome to TFP.

I would talk with your potential Pool Builders about the design of those seats and see if they think their rebar, gunite and plaster contractors can do the design you want. I think there are better craftsman in Europe then what you may find in Houston.

I would build the jets in the chairs like spa jets with a separate pump and suction intake to ensure you have enough flow and pressure for the experience you expect.

Thanks for the feedback.
It probably will need it's own pump, if anything, so the jet/bubble pressure can be adjusted for comfort as the water/air is pushed against the body floating you up.
I ran this buy one builder and he didn't even respond. So I'm guessing he's hoping the request will go away.

This is what you are looking for, though not likely many builders are familiar with them. Lots of extra plumbing and design involved.

Hi,
Agreed, there will be lots of extra plumbing involved....

I called Paramount and the nice lady there said this might not be what I'm looking for as the bubble pressure may not be enough to float you up. She will have the technical manager give me a call and I'll let you know how that goes.

Also looking at their website, the bubbles are smallish and it would be really fizzy sitting on top of that many bubbles (if that makes sense). Another item, the product is only a few feet long, so I'd have to buy multiples of them and put them parallel just to cover a reclined body position.

In my mind, and as I saw the bubble lounger, it was just 1" holes in the concrete pumping out large air bubbles with a soft water jet.

Thanks for the link to Paramount.

Hi Everyone,

I posted in another section but now realize this is where I need to post for this question. Found some new pictures with better view of the spa bubbles.

Has anyone seen or does anyone know what kind of bubblers these are in the pictures? They are the white/silver stripes inlaid into the pool. Attaching some pics, one from a hotel in Prague an one from a resort spa in the UK. I was at the hotel in Prague when it was a Marriot and sat in that while it was on. Wow, what an experience. A light water bubbling pressure massage that never gets tiresome or overwhelming.

If I ever do find or am able to recreate this, any issues with the holes pointing up towards the sky on an outside feature?

I want to do this instead of having a sun deck. Sun decks are great if you're in a higher latitude as you'd use the deck to get a tan. Here in Texas the family is unable to use a sun deck to get a tan as most of us get tanned just walking from our car into HEB  This feature would be a better use of the pool space imo.

Thanks!

Have you tried emailing the hotel General Manager and asking for information about the manufacture of the system they have installed in their pool?

I have found they are often very accommodating when guests are complimentary and want details about a feature they like in the hotel.
