Looking for Fiberglass Builder in DFW

Hey everyone!


For anyone that has owned both a Gunite and Fiberglass pool, I wonder which you preferred owning.


The home I currently live in has a pebble-coated concrete pool. We are moving to a 'new' house, and want to add a pool. I am thinking of a Fiberglass pool because they are said to be easier to maintain and can last longer than a concrete one. They are also faster to install. Maybe even a little less expesnsive to install, too (??).


Given all the COVID-19 impact, and also it almost summer, is now a bad time to reach out to contractors and start building a pool? Are more people building right now due to being home? Are more people building because it's summer time? Are prices higher right now than they will be in 6 months?


We currently own a home with a pool, and are in the process of purchasing a new one (close on July 3rd). There are already other improvements we are looking to do to the interior of the house before moving in and putting up our existing home for sale, so I would be surprised if we moved into the new house before August. The backyard is roughly 45' x 45' and in Plano and the house was built in '83.


Does anyone have any good experience with a company in DFW that does Fiberglass pools?

I can't help with the DFW recommendations. But yes, pool builders are very busy both because it's summer and everyone wants a pool because of the quarantines. I have built and owned two gunite pools and now a fiberglass one. They're comparable, it's all just preference. I like the fiberglass but "easier to maintain" is marketing fluff. You have to keep your chemistry in balance just the same. The only benefit is that you don't have to deal with weirdness from curing plaster in the first year. I also don't think they necessarily last longer - less likely to need a resurfacing than plaster in the nearer term, but it may be more difficult and expensive to do if and when needed. The installation can be a little faster, and they can be a little cheaper. But just a little.

Hi! I don't have fiberglass, but I'm in McKinney and recently saw a facebook post about fiberglass pools, several people mentioned they were very happy with Metroplex pools. Another that was mentioned was Aquamarine Pools. A few mentioned prices and they definitely seemed cheaper than gunite.

One person that posted 'against' fiberglass said that they want to refinish theirs and are having a hard time finding any pool companies to do it. They said the fiberglass itched when you sat on it, but it was built in the 80's so...I would think/hope? the newer fiberglass pools wouldn't have those issues?

I was in a similar situation in 2015.
But looking for a new property with room for a fiberglass pool.

All the research indicated that inground vinyl was the least expensive option, at least for my region. Might be a lower cost option for you.

At the last minute I ended up finding a house with a vinyl inground that needed rehabilitation. I jumped on it, moved in and had a new liner in within 3 months.

I'm in the same situation as you. Fiberglass guy is way more expensive for some reason any says easier to maintain an lower heating costs. Gunite guy says cost to run should be the same. Have not decided how to move forward just yet.

Before you pull the trigger, make sure you check your HOA rules. Ours will not allow fiberglass. Not trying to start a gunite vs fiberglass debate, but I wouldnt want you to get too far down the path of fiberglass before checking to see if you can put one in.

I was really close to going fiberglass, and really like Metroplex pools. In the end, I think you get a little more value with gunite here in TX. I have decided to go with Puryear Custom Pools, with an Aqua Bright finish that has similarities of fiberglass coating.
