Looking for advice on what sealant to use around pool between concrete patio and pavers!

Hi all,

I have been researching best ways to fill the gap between the concrete patio and the pavers of my in ground gunnite pool.

Previously, there was a black rubber-like sealant (photo attached) but it was aged and cracking/separating. I cut all of it out and tried using a self leveling sealant (photo attached - gray sealant).

My issue is, that this product I bought came in a tube and the area I have to seal is fairly wide in some areas (up to 3” between concrete and pavers in some areas). In addition, in some areas the concrete patio has dipped down a bit and is no longer the same height as the pavers.

I need a product that is weather resistant, easy to apply and mold to make the transitions smooth, has a mat finish vs the glossy look of the one I tried using, and is flexible for the change in temps.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Welcome to TFP.

Deck-O-Seal or Sikaflex 1A are the products to use in a pool expansion joint.

I am not sure you will find a flexible product that meets the look you want.

Deck-o-seal looks interesting. I tried a similar product to Sikaflex however it didn’t turn out as great as I was anticipating. It’s glossy for one, and it, depending on the width of the gap, it dries with some imperfections (see one of last pics I posted along with the question).

It takes skill and experince to know how to smooth imperfections in those products. You have to know the right timing to do it as it sets.

Understood. I think I’ll try again with the sikaflex but use masking tape this time and sprinkle sand on top while it’s still wet to match up more with the concrete
You might also try raising the deck back up flush with the coping and see if you can reduce the gap at the same time.

Update: I decided to use RapidSet - self leveling sealant and sprinkling sand while I went. Here’s the after picture. It turned out great!

The concrete slabs are enormous and each section weigh at least 200 pounds. Ideally, I know that if I lifted them and leveled them closer to the height of the pavers, the mastic would have been much easier to apply. However, I was worried that they would crack and break as some of them are already cracking.

But I’m happy with how it turned out!

Those are far more than 200lbs. They do look better. I had to lift and move the sections around mine so I can empathize.
