Little Giant Pump cheap at Amazon today

Red = 1/2" hose at 100 feet long.

Blue = 3/4" hose at 100 feet long.

Green = 3/4" hose at 50 feet long.

So, the hose diameter and length affect the flow that you will get.

For cover purposes, the flow will probably not matter for most cases.

For draining the pool then the speed might be significant.

In any case, the rated flow maximum of 1,745 gph ( 29.1 gpm) will rarely actually be achieved.

It'll be plenty because even in a monster storm with 1 inch per hour, that's only about 375 gallons on a 600 sq ft pool. (y)

Its a pretty good deal considering it has a 3 year warranty.
My cheapo harbor freight one is 1/4hp & only has a 90 day warranty- its $150 right now

Knowing the flow can be helpful.

For example, if you have a 20 x 40 pool, each inch is about 500 gallons.

If you need to drain 2 inches, that is about 1,000 gallons.

Maybe you want to set a timer to check the pool and you need to know when to check.

If you use a 3/4” hose at 100 foot long, the flow will be about 550 gph or about 9.167 gpm.

The time will be about 109 minutes or 1 hour and 49 minutes.

Note that two different Superior Cover Pumps are being shown...

They look very similar in construction and features to the APCP Pool Cover Pump. Any of them should work fine.

Shop around for the best price. On a pool cover flow rate hardly matters.

Our definitions of "monster storm" are a bit different..😉 In the Houston area our rain tends to come in heavy batches. We can easily get an inch in 30 minutes. A few weeks ago we got 3" in less than 90 minutes. It didn't really cause any flooding, because it was short-lived, localized and preceded by a 2-1/2 month long drought. A week later we had about 2.25" in an hour. On my pool an inch is about 700 gallons. My overflow system wasn't designed well enough to handle that easily. If we come anywhere close to what we would call a monster storm, I will have to break out the utility pump quickly.

We have that model for our pools in our yard outside our retail store we have to drain off 5 pool covers during the winter and it works pretty good only downfall it has an internal float and no on/off switch so it turns itself off if the water level isn’t high enough just have to either move it around or used brush to push water towards the pump
