My wife and I are pretty new to pool care, we had our pool built last year but this is our first summer enjoying it and we've had a prety dramatic learning curve, especially with the heat we've experienced in North Texas. We're currently using 7.55% Sodium Hypochlorite Clorox Bleach from Costco but I keep wondering if this is the best thing to use. A friend of mine told me he's using liquid pool chlorine from Lowe's and I've found this 10% Sodium Hypochlorite option: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Pool-Essentials-1-Gallon-Liquid-Pool-Chlorine/5001527059, and some power options: https://www.lowes.com/pd/HTH-Ultima...orinating-Granules-18lb-2022-Model/5005506725 & https://www.lowes.com/pd/HTH-HTH-Ultimate-Mineral-Brilliance-Chlorinating-Granules-18lb/5001736061 which appear to be far more concentrated and Calcium Hypochlorite. There's also these but they cost a fortune: Leslie's Power Powder Plus 73% Calcium Hypochlorite Pool Shock 25 lbs | Leslie's Pool Supplies, Leslie's Power Powder Plus Calcium Hypochlorite Pool Shock - 25 lb Bucket | Leslie's Pool Supplies, Leslie's Chlor Brite Sodium Dichlor Granular Chlorine Pool Shock 25 lbs | Leslie's Pool Supplies, Leslie's Fresh 'N Clear Non Chlorine Oxidizing Pool Shock 25 lbs | Leslie's Pool Supplies but they cost a fortune!

What's better and what's the difference between liquid and granules/Sodium and Calcium Hypochlorite and just straight bleach/Clorox?

Thank you in advance!

John

Use liquid chlorine. The Clorox has an additive called Cloromax to NOT be used in pools.
Do not use solid chlorine. The Cal Hypo adds calcium, which I believe your water has plenty of in Texas.

Down here in San Antonio, you can get that same product at Wal-mart for about $5/gal. I have had them deliver two batches to my door. The last batch was 2 weeks old upon arrival. First batch was about the same as I recall. If I order at least $35 worth, there is no delivery fee. So far, it has been next day delivery but every time I have gone in the store and checked the shelves they were out but I was still able to order online and get it delivered the next day.

Thanks @mknauss! We ended up running to The Home Depot becuase they had some in stock; we'll take the Clorox back to Costco!

That's a great pro-tip and easier than lugging the big 4 pack boxes around, thank you @Burke_B !

Definitely don't use the Mineral Brilliance stuff, the SDS shows it's got a lot of unwanted junk in it in addition to the calcium that the cal-hypo would add. I'd add it to the "never" list.
