Jandy Stealth Dead, Need to Upgrade, Seeking Input!

So my single speed Jandy Stealth started to make a weird sound from Saturday and it seemed like the bearings were gone. I have home warranty so opened a claim. It was one of the reasons I had not yet upgraded to a variable speed. So I had the technician come in, he ran it and in 5 seconds decided motor was gone and needs to be replaced.

So here are my options.

1. Get a variable speed pump with no upgrade to controllers and apparently it set to a constant speed and I can use what i have now to control the unit.
2. Upgrade the variable speed pump with upgraded controllers that allows me to configure wirelessly etc. but I have to spend $2300 ($1900 for controller and $200 for more powerful pump).

I wasn't sure which way to go although #2 seems like the way to go long term with the savings in electricity, however I am a bit confused.

Is there not an interim option available where I can adjust the speed based on when I have solar on, vs just pool vs just the spa etc? Pre program it to Setting 1 vs Setting 2 vs Setting 3? The yelp review for the company is really good so I am tending to trust the person but also looking at not such a high out of pocket expense.

Appreciate any guidance.

What do you have now as a controller? What horsepower pump? Replacement variable-speed motors will allow for the scheduling you are looking for at less cost than a complete pump. The easiest to work with are the Century V-Green if available (they've been discontinued) but the Nidec Neptune is good as well and seems to cost a bit less.
 
I think I have the Aqualink, I have this old blue PDA that I can use to program. No way to control via any mobile app though. I believe my pump is Jandy Stealth, how do I find the size? I think It might be 3.5HP! Should I take a picture of the pump, the controller and the PDA that might help?

Horsepower rating should be on the side of the motor or pump housing. Even with older automation, there are generally ways to integrate it with newer motors/pumps.

Thank you! Read both the thread, they are both interesting. If I did not have Fidelity Pool warranty and I had to do it all then I would probably have gone this route, considering I do have a warranty, how do I ask the pool technician if these routes are option? Just send him this link?

If you have a single-speed pump, and these are no longer legal in the US since 7/2021, except under specific horsepower-rating conditions, they should have to upgrade to something legal that will fit the needs of your system. They won't like it.

Correct I am aware they are no longer legal, This is why the technician said he will replace it with a Variable speed and to work with my current controller "lock" it an optimum speed. From what I understand the Variable speed will meet the legal requirement but will work like a single speed because the speed is set.
Will I really need to update the controller? Is it because as per warranty he will need to replace Jandy with Jandy vs other options if I were to go outside Jandy?

Another option is in understanding what a home warranty company really is. They are an insurance company. In California, you can have anyone you want do the repair, just like your automobile, and work out the details on reimbursement from the company. It usually means you pay up front, but you have the legal right in this state, I've dealt with this type of situation many times. Sometimes, they have negotiated with me on just what will be repaired, and no I would never work directly for a warranty company. Personal decision, though I have been approached.
You will have to ask the warranty company, they won't volunteer this information.
They have their "preferred providers" but you still have the option, just like a body shop for your car. They want to pay as little as possible, you want a working system. There is a compromise there somewhere.

Agree, here is what the technician said when I asked him about the "V green pump"

"I do not reccomend this option or this pump. It does not work directly with the aqualink. There is a special interface needed and is usually pretty troublesome.
Look at the Jandy epump 2.7hp. I used to also recommend the pentaiir intelliflo pump which also works great with the aqualink system. However they have discontinued the intelliflo pump and came out with what's called intelliflo 3 which is not proven itself yet to be trouble free"

I also asked him about what controller he was referring to and his response is "Aqualink Iq30rs"

Any thoughts?

I am waiting to see what warranty company is going to respond tomorrow. I am going to have to call them and have them speed up things. My pool is starting to turn green ☹️☹️ so perhaps adding a bit of pressure will make them speed up!
 
V-Green MOTOR with an automation adapter is anything but troublesome. But, unfortunately, unless you can find a motor and the adapter somewhere, they are also discontinued. I can no longer get either at any of my suppliers. Sorry you find yourself in this situation.
Intelliflo 3 is new, so no track record. With your older system, it would require the IntelliComm 2 adapter (which should still work with it, very expensive) or a complete Jandy upgrade.
 
@MSchutzer You have a similar setup (solar/spa) with Aqualink, does the OP have any other options w/o upgrading the controller?

The standard advice in this situation is to add liquid chlorine and brush regularly.
