Jandy Stealth 2.0 starts- abruptly stops

I just came home to my pump starting and immediately shutting off. The impeller is not obstructed, so I have a feeling it may be a capacitor issue. I am about to test in that direction.

Since Jandy has discontinued this version of the stealth pump - and I have had issues mounting with the lid (replaced)- pvc pipes (replaced)…

I am thinking it may be time for a complete overhaul. I am going to try to fix it while I do research, so my pool does not get an algae bloom.

Does this pump have a run and start capacitor? One on top and one in the back? If it kicks on, water flows- then kicks off… any clue which one it could be?

There is a single capacitor - a run capacitor on top of the motor. If you need one today, Leslie's generally has them in stock.

Before I overhauled an old large single speed pump like the Stealth, I would strongly consider moving to a variable speed pump, ESPECIALLY with a SWCG. I'm all for fixing old stuff and dragging old technology along (look some of my threads), but 1SPs make very little sense given the cost to operate when a SWCG is involved.

It is a variable speed pump.

Things in the Stealth line were 1SPs, and VSPs don't have capacitors. Can you post a picture, or at least the model numbers off the side of the pump and motor?

That is a 14 year old single speed pump.

Why do you think that it is variable speed.

Has the motor been replaced?

Pictures, age of pump, error codes?
No error codes. 4 years old, 2 speed with AO Smith motor photos in other comments

Ah, it's not an SHPF2.0, it's an SHPF2.0-2. Good naming convention, Jandy. Gotcha!

A VSP would still offer savings. But for now, as long as there is full voltage getting to the motor, I would agree this is probably a capacitor issue and I'd replace that.

Motor type CXPM means Capacitor Start/Run on Low Speed, PSC on High Speed.

So, you should have a start capacitor in the back of the motor under the back cover and a dual run capacitor under the hump on top of the motor.

So, you basically have 3 capacitors.

Does the motor start on High Speed or Low Speed or neither?

Thank you! Starts on high speed then kicks off, nothing on low speed. When I get home I am going to check the voltage at the capacitors. Thank you!
