Jandy DEV60 Pressure Gauge Replacement

Hope you all are staying safe during this storm!

My pressure gauge has been reading abnormally low (between 3-5psi). My DE filter was due for a cleaning anyway, so I broke it down, cleaned everything, and reassembled. After recharging the filter, the pressure gauge is still reading about 3psi. Bad gauge? So I ordered a new one. My question is, to replace it do I have to take the top off again or will it just screw on? If the top needs to come off again, then do I need to add any more DE when I reassemble?

Thank you all!

Matt

DE should only be added after a backwash or clean-out. Relief-valve/gauge assembly should just thread into the port in the lid.

It is just a regular gauge in the housing.

You can use a screwdriver in the notch to pop it open.

Pop off the cover and unscrew the gauge.

Yes, that's too high. Clean pressure on a 3450 rpm pump is normally 8-14, Sounds like you have a blockage or an incorrectly installed gauge. Do you have normal flow out of the returns in the pool?

The maximum pressure due to the filter should be 4.33 psi and that is at 120 GPM.

You will also have pressure from the other components in the return line like a heater and the plumbing.

You should never need more than 40 GPM for any reason, so you are running the pump too fast and you have excessive head loss from something.

So things went from bad to worse 🙃. I took the filter apart again, cleaned the grids, reassembled, lubed o-rings, recharged, added DE and pressure remained the same at around 30 psi with pump running at 3450. Except this time in addition I noticed some DE coming back in through the return jets. It looks like just the 2 in the spa. So I stopped the pump. Set the valve to waste and vacuumed all of the DE out. Turned the pump back on and DE is back through the spa returns. Feeling defeated.

Thanks for your reply and expertise James W! You sound like you have a much better understanding of the mechanics of the

so just a quick rookie update. I apparently added too much DE. I followed the Jandy manual which says to add “12 1lb coffee cans” which I assumed to be the blue scoop I bought at Leslie’s. So I added 12 scoops. After a little TFP research it turns out that’s not exactly 1 lb of DE. So it looks like I added double the amount. 😑
