Agree. I'm looking into gardenia. They can grow 4 ft tall which is fine with me.

Maybe try C. sativa … it might help you on multiple fronts …
Yea, they’re pokey. But they have neat colors and work good in places you don’t need to walk through and are a nice screen compared to a big row of finicky arborvitae. Some are less pokey than others. Maybe near the pool pad isn’t a great idea…

Yup, I will, but we already went over the dig plans last week.
Make sure to go over them with the crew. My GC showed up with generic plans that weren't mine and we almost came to blows over it.
Long story he got fired over doing it his way. I got the last laugh but the excavators had to come back a 2nd day so it still inconvenienced me.
No plan of operations reaches with any certainty beyond the first encounter with the enemy's main force.

Thats 2D. My 2D was GREAT. The 3rd dimension(s) on the other hand, almost made me need bail.
There was one build where they marked out the dig and had a good before meeting. THEN the digger dug the shallow end on THAT side instead of THIS side!! BIG difference!! They had to move dirt from that end to this end and compact it down good. It was a mess!
The 20x40 part was no conflict between my plans and the GCs. But he added 4 more ft to the shallow end and poured concrete for liner covered stairs instead of my fiberglass stairs, which he had to walk around to get to the backyard. The excavators had to come back a 2nd day to dig more out, and a 3rd day to break off the excess concrete from the shell and remove the waste. At that point the excavator gave a 'him or me' ultimatum to the PB because he was sick of similar mistakes and the GC got let go.
But yeah. Agreed upon plans with the PB, and a proper mark out still may leave lots of room for error.

It’s sort of funny how excited we all get by someone digging a hole in their backyard … like, we all get super jazzed when Santa leaves us a shovel for Christmas
