Is this an issue… moving part on Jacuzzi jet

Hi all,

I just completed an AhhSome purge thanks to a local TFP member. Merci!

I noticed that the pseudo-metal cover of some of the FX jets in my four-month-old Jacuzzi J-475 are loose. And when moved they produce a crunchy sound. Is this an issue?

And might the sticky residue that was showing up in my hot tub of late be due to a glue that normally holds this piece in place? Especially considering that the AhhSome purge didn’t result in a lot of gunk.

Here is a video:

Thanks,

Andrew

I suspect the sticky residue is not glue. The Ahhsome releases a host of organic particulates from your plumbing and jets. These floaties are sticky in nature. You have to wipe them with a cloth or towel as they attach to the acrylic shell. Don't let them dry on the shell or it can be more work than you want to get them off. As far as your pseudo stainless covers, I would move them to release any bio-gunk that may be causing this. They are just for looks and not an integral part of the jet(s). What you are referring to are called escutcheons. You need to purge periodically to make your water maintenance easier.

The sticky didn’t occur with the AhhSome. In fact, I was surprised by how little gunk came out with the AhhSome. The sticky stuff was showing up when I started using Liquid Chlorine.

In fact, the fact that there was little funk with the AhhSome leads me to believe that perhaps in using liquid chlorine, something was going wrong. No idea really. This is all new to me.

I still feel that the sticky substance you experienced was in all probability were "clinging hanger ons" that were finally expelled when the bleach was introduced. Biofilm is extremely tenacious and attaches to surfaces like they were glued. They hang on through immense turbulence and then finally loosen their grip and float into the vessel. This is why we recommend that for hot tubs that have never been purged with Ahh-Some to add half the amount for a second purge using the same first purge water. Some tubs even need a third round using the same water and using one quarter amount of Ahh-Some.. even after all this purging you may notice floaters and stickies upon a refill for a few days. Simply wipe them away with a cloth or towel if they stick,to a surface at the waterline. Usually, your filter grabs these little guys.

This is indeed the most likely situation… the gunk being biofilm. And that when my CYA levels were finally down, the chlorine could do its job.

Wish I had read the idea of a second immediate purge with same water. I would have been into that but alas the water has been dumped and we are starting for the winter.

Wish us luck!

think the escutcheons being loose is normal.
Never seen this style, but it is normal to have a little movement. The escutions are not glued, usually being attached by little metal folding tabs.

Liquid chlorine for a pool or household bleach?
What color is the residue? Any odor? Do you have uv/ozone?

Good to know that there is no glue to hold those pieces in. In other words, no longer concerned about them.

As for the rest:

Liquid chlorine for pools bought from Canadian Tire:

The residue on the acrylic was too thin for me to tell, but there was a beige coloured residue in the skimmer net thing where the filters are.

When I would run my jets with the air there was a very strong smell. Greater than the chloramines that I had smelled when using granules.

The Jacuzzi J-475 has both UV and ozone.

Curious to hear your thoughts.

Would you say it was a chlorine odor or more astringent? Make your nose tingle?

The Jacuzzi J-475 has both UV and ozone.
Both deplete chlorine residuals. This should not be an issue if chlorine is added as appropriate for use, as a high residual is not needed when not in use with the cover closed. I am a fan of both, and Sundance/Jacuzzi has one of the best designed systems, but you need to be aware of that fact before you start chasing a constant residual.
But that's not why I asked. Post pics of the equipment area, specifically the uv/ozone and any tubing on it. Also your filter.
Have you contacted your dealer?

So, full purge and cleaning on Sunday. Chemicals balanced and super chlorination on Monday. No one in since last night… one fully-washed-and-scrubbed person for fifteen minutes. Today, same thing. Decided to clean the acrylic. The cleaning pad now looks like this…

Hard to tell about the door as it has been some time. It smelled like chloramines but very strong.

Sorry… no photos at the moment of equipment.

By residuals, what do you mean?

My recommendation is to add 1/2 Level Teaspoon of Ahh-Some gel to the tub now. This is just a pinch or so. You won't have to drain the tub after this providing you get zero or very little release. It will foam slightly and you can soak in the tub tomorrow without draining it. Lets see if the tub is really clean. Your brown pad tells me otherwise. Run jets on high for a few minutes after adding this small amount of gel. Report findings tomorrow please.

Sadly I have none left. Or rather… I attempted to buy some from Amazon two weeks ago but it never came, so instead a fellow member of our family here gave me a dose. I drove a total of two hours to go get it. I cancelled my original Amazon order, which according to Amazon, may have gotten lost. I have a new one on the way. I am actually considering doing an entirely new purge and empty this coming weekend… IF the AhhSome arrives.
