I don’t want to invest in Omnilogic, not when my Aqualogic works perfectly and not when Omnilogic is so expensive.

Has anyone devised a way to to have those controls internet enabled? I mean if my Aquapod is able to talk to the system, then you would think there could be a custom simple interface to do the same.

I was actually referred to an excellent Hayward Tech, but unfortunately I don’t see any of these options as cost feasible or practical. I’m just surprised there is no 3rd party solution, I mean if my AquaPod can talk to my Aqualogic, then you would think it would be feasible.

Here were the options:

as discussed earlier, here are my suggestions if you want to add wifi/internet control to your pool. The part numbers are in parenthesis.

Replacing the AquaLogic with an OmniLogic

The basic OmniLogic (HLBASE) is built for internet control and it can do everything your AquaLogic does, and more. It can be wired with an Ethernet cable or it can communicate via WiFi, but an antenna must be bought separately in that case (HLWLAN).

This option is way simpler and will leave a more "clean looking" site, but it may cost a little more.

Replacing parts in the AquaLogic

This option is my least favourite because you will end with a display that doesn't really fit in the panel's hole anymore and an application that looks like something out of the early 2000s, but it's possible to do it. You would have to replace three parts and add one:
  1. The PCB (GLX-PCB-PRO)
  2. The display (GLX-PL-LOC-P-4)
  3. The antenna.(AQL-BASE2-RF)
  4. AquaConnect router (AQ-HOMENET)
In the end, it might cost just a little less than changing the whole unit for a newer one.

Keeping the AquaLogic and adding a VS Omni

The VS Omni uses the same app as the OmniLogic, but the unit itself can control less components. The wifi antenna is built-in the display, so there is no additional part to order.

To control a 2-speed pump, lights and a heater, you will need:
  • Basic VS Omni that comes with one high-voltage relay (HLOMNIHUB)
  • 2 additional high voltage relays (HLH485RELAY)
You would not need to buy two additional relays if you changed your 2-speed pump for a variable speed pump.

BUT, you won't be able to control your salt chlorinator from it. You would have to keep using the AquaLogic for that.

Also, there will be a lot of wires going back and forth between the breakers in the AquaLogic and the VS Omni relays.

The information out there is very inconsistent and even varies between Hayward documentation on the Aqua Logic being compatible with the AQ-HOMENET.

In some Amazon reviews you can see even Hayward responding that the Aqua Logic is compatible, I’m on firmware 2.5 and I had a user reach out to tell me I would have to upgrade my firmware but I can’t find any documentation or procedures online for doing so.

Also, the prices on the AQ-HOMENET seem crazy on eBay and Amazon, $479.99 and up for tech that is 10 years old.
