Intelliflo anti freeze feature

Can anyone comment on running intelliflo pump in cold weather? I am thinking of buying one (to replace old single speed pump) and i see it has an anti freeze feature that can automatically turn it off "to protect the pump." Would it hurt the pump to just keep it running continuously during subfreezing temperatures? Apparently the anti freeze feature is adjustable and bypassable.

Winters here routinely go down into the low 20s and sometimes briefly dip down into teens or even single digits. I have always left my pool open with pump running 24/7 in the winter, with pump and return plumbing in an insulated enclosure, and have never had a problem. Sometimes a thin layer of ice forms on pool surface but it does not block water flow into the skimmers.

thanks

You want running water during a freeze. Running water is harder to freeze. Think pond vs River. Unless there is something in the pool world I don’t know about, all the anti freeze techniques I have encountered involved heat or running the water. My control system measures air temp and if I have anti freeze turned on, it runs my pump when below a certain temperature.

You got me curious because I have yet to hook my com line to my system and set up the pump. I've been just having control system power it up and it runs.
Look at page 16 in the INtelliflo manual, you can set the RPM and temp it turns on. Seems clear enough that if your setting RPM, it will be running but I would agree that they should have a blurb about how that works and why.

Another thread on freeze protection. Note how the temp sensor on the Intelliflo is not reliable. My intellitouch control system is pretty good though.
Pentair Easy Touch Freeze Protection Setting

Guys,

We are talking two different things here...

The pump itself has a freeze protection feature that can be enabled to turn the pump on to protect the pump during freezing weather... If the pump is connected to either the EasyTouch or IntelliTouch, the automation system has a different freeze protection feature that turns on the pump and cycles valves to protect the plumbing as well as the pump...

If the pump is running a 24/7 schedule the freeze feature just does not kick in..

Thanks,

Jim R.

This is not exactly true with iAqualink. I found this out 2 night ago when it dropped to 28. When freeze protection kicks in, the pump increases to full speed. My pump runs 24 hours but at night I drop it to 800 rpm. I also have the waterfalls (2) enabled for freeze protection so they both turn on.
