In-Ground Pool has an Above Ground Skimmer Installed

Hi, I am new to pools and my house that I bought has a pool. I am trying to find a skimmer plate that fits, but in my research noticed that the Hayward 1096-c skimmer basket is for an above ground poo. Is it possible they just put an above ground skimmer basket into the skimmer, or is it likely they actually installed an above-ground skimmer in ground? Again, ultimately just looking for a skimmer plate that fits.

Any comments appreciated.

So you don't step on it ? SMART !!!

Got any pics ? Get all up in the skimmer and look for a model # somewhere. Some folks were forced to mix and match skimmers/pools these last few years due to shortages. Other folks were just cheap, since ever.

So it's totally possible that it's an aboveground model, and likely if the basket fits it. Usually the above ground models are 5 or 6 inch and the ingrounds are
7 or 8. Or close to those at least.

The skimmer basket is the Hayward SP1096-c, and it fits like a glove into the hole, so I assume the skimmer model is the same? Dunno, I'm new to skimmers. Here's a link to the 1096C skimmer: Hayward Complete Skimmer, C Oncrete | SP1096 - again, appears to be above-ground (at least I think?).

So do want a plate for vacuuming or to winterize the main opening ? Both can be found by the dimensions, as many people don't know what their model # is years later.

The common sizes are far enough apart that I found my winter plate on the first try.

So long as the basket measures 5 1/4 inches across, this is it.
