hi, everyone, I have this sunken sitting area in my backyard that always has leakage from underground water. Water is coming up through grout. I have get the tiles removed and want to put a layer of waterproof material and then reinstall tiles. Any suggestions on what waterproof material would best serve the purpose? Thank you in advance for your time.

Welcome to TFP.

I would use a waterproof membrane used for showers…

The membrane is a continous flexible pvc or similar material. The challenge with your configuration is getting it in place without having seams in the membrane. Seams unless properly done lead to leaks.

The alternative is some sort of waterproofing coating, but in that case I would want to make sure it is meant to have masonry over it. It appears you had tile in the area before.
