How to manually shut off Pentair 400 pool heater

My heater will not shut off. I do not have the remote and the keypad will not turn it off.

Im able to turn up temp via keypad but unable to switch to pool/spa or turn off.

The pool filter and heater are on the same breaker and I need to pool pump on in order to turn on the heater

Everything was working fine until I accidently placed a sign on top of heater vent it melted, not sure if that's why.

Is there a service disconnect on the heater? Pull it to shut off power to the heater.

Welcome to TFP.

There is a gas shutoff on the gas line. Turn off the gas to the heater and it will shutdown.

Start by replacing the membrane keypad.

Post pics of your heater and show us where the sign melted.

I turned off the gas line and checking to see when temp goes down. Will it eventually shut off the power to heater?

I'm unaware of a switch.

No, it should show the Service Heater LED.

No gas = no fire = no heat.

If you attempt to replace the keypad, or perform any other electrical work, please use the breaker or service disconnect to remove power from the heater.

Turning off the gas, stops the heater from making heat. It does not turn off power to the heater.
