How many gallons of boiling water to heat 5000 gal 10 degrees?

So, new question... how much molten salt to heat a pool up 10 degrees?

5,000 gallons of water would require 417,000 BTU to heat up 10 degrees F.

Adding 844.5 lbs of molten sodium chloride at 1474 °F would add 174,980 BTU from the salt changing from liquid to solid and 242,109 BTU from the salt going from 1474 °F to 85 °F for a total of 417,089 BTU.

In the video, 50 grams of molten salt are added to the aquarium water.

50 grams of molten salt would vaporize at least 21 grams of water, which would turn into about 35 liters of steam (hence the explosion). More steam would be created if the molten salt is hotter than its melting point, which it probably is.

The boiling water would take 393.7 gallons, which is 3,283 lbs. That’s 3.9 times as much weight as the 844.5 lbs. of molten salt. However, it would only take 384 lbs of steam, so that’s the best deal.
